My First Session Since COVID

It is crazy to think I have only been “back to work” for a little over a month now. I use the word “back” loosely because I never really stopped working. I took the time when we were mandated to stay home, to revamp the things behind the scenes, but I wasn’t doing any sessions for clients. All the things that get pushed to the next day, that To Do List, when you’re running around like a crazy person, with no end in sight is what kept my focus.  When I say “back to work”, I am referring to being with my clients again, creating magic and being together for consultations, sessions and reveals. My first session since COVID all started, was a race against time and I am so happy to say we won the race!

Back in February, I was approached by a very excited grandma to be! She was looking to gift her daughter and son-in-law a maternity and newborn session. Both sets of grandparents wanted to gift them something incredibly wonderful for their growing family, but it was a SURPRISE! Everyone knew this would be something the couple would want to have done, to preserve time, so it became the perfect gift to give!

I have to say, I am usually pretty good at keeping secrets ~ BUT ~ this one was one of the harder ones I have had to be silent about!! It was even harder when the parents to-be reached out, to start discussing their perfect collections for each session. I am going to tell you right now, I did my job and didn’t say anything!! They didn’t find out they were being gifted such a wonderful gift until their baby shower in May.

As March rolled around and things started shutting down, we all started to panic a little. Without knowing what was going on or what the future held, none of us knew if these sessions would be allowed to take place. I knew we would be able to capture something, at some point in the future, but it unfortunately might not have been the exact Maternity or Newborn session everyone had initially envisioned. My heart was breaking!! I wanted nothing more than to be able to capture these precious moments for this family, but I wasn’t sure how.

When the news came that June 12, 2020 photographers in specific regions would be able to open their doors and resume working, my heart skipped a beat and I started jumping for joy! Part of me was extremely excited for this to happen (it felt like forever since I had my camera in my hands) and the other part of me was scared out of my mind!! To me, there is nothing wrong with being a little extra cautious to make sure everyone’s health and safety is taken into consideration.

From the very first moment the announcement came out, my first call was to Meghan & Andy. They were the very first session I needed to happen, being their due date was only a couple weeks away and we were running out of time to capture their Maternity Session.

On June 15, 2020, I OFFICIALLY opened my doors, with some initial restrictions in place. The safety of my family, clients and myself are my utmost importance, at all times. By June 16th, I was behind my camera capturing the beautiful baby bump!! It is a good thing we did went out when we did. Their beautiful baby boy made his grand entrance on June 29, 2020.

I was so excited to hear about the news of their new precious addition! My brain went into overdrive with ideas of how to capture the wee babe, all the while making sure it was the safest way I could do it. There was always the thought of me opening up my home studio again, but it had to be the right time and more importantly it had to be done the right way.

On July 10, 2020, almost a month later, I was finally ready to have clients into my home. I am sure Meghan, Andy & Bo were happy it all came together when it did, as they were my very first clients through the doors.

Currently I am only allowing certain sessions into my studio, as I have to take into consideration my family as well. Every single person who has come through those doors have been nothing but respectful and excited we are able to capture their moments again.

This past month has been a roller coaster of emotions for me, as I am sure it has been for you as well. Just when I think I have it all together, something hits and I am scrambling to make sure it all works together. Everything I do, I always have my family, my clients and myself in mind. To make this work we all have to do our part. I would hate to think what will be if we all take this for granted! I don’t want to miss out on capturing any more special moments with my clients and I am thankful every day I was able to resume working when I did!

Check out some of the magic I was able to capture for this amazing family over the past few weeks. It is moments like these, I am forever grateful for!
